Oh, those make me miss Sibenik like crazy. What was your favorite place? I hope renovation was finished on the the cathedral when you visited, it's gorgeous without all of those ridiculous tarps hanging everywhere.

:( I am so depressed over not getting to go this year...

I'm so glad you enjoyed your trip. I know I fell in love with the country, and would move in a heartbeat if I could work out the finances and logistics...I still might one day...in the meantime, I'm hoping to return for a visit next year.

I'm so happy now, on 25-26th April I'm going to Croatia for a weekend trip organized by college. :D :D :D First day Zagreb, second day Plitvice Lakes. :) I already saw Plitvice two years ago, but it's so beautiful, can't wait to see it again. :D And I'm very extited about visiting Zagreb. In 2007 I spent only 2 hours there but this time we are going to spend a whole day and in the evening we are going to theatre!!!!!! :D Yet don't know to which one but hopefully to HNK. :P OMG, I just wish Goran would visit Zagreb that weekend...

Zone, you'll have a wonderful time, there is so much to see, and lots of good restaurants with reasonable prices. Try to ride the tram up the hill to the old part of the city if you get the chance.

I had a wonderful time in Croatia again. :D Zagreb is so beautiful, I'm totally in love with that city and wish I could spend more time there. I have to say I don't really like Budapest, it's big and overcrowded for me. Zagreb looks more like smaller Hungarian towns and I like it. Has a calmer and healthier atmosphere. :)
Unfortunately we didn't go to theater after all, maybe newt time. In the national theatre there was a ballet performance that evening and the majority of our group rather wanted to have free program. So we went to eat and drink beer at a restaurant. The waiter was a young man, he was nice. :D We even made him taste home-made Hungarian brandy (palinka).

Mrs Eyre, yes it is. :) The bar/café part of the theatre where they met can be seen on the right side. It would have been so good to take a look inside as well but I didn't have time for that. Next time I should go to Zagreb with Goran fans coz I really want to spend more time discovering his fave places.

Zone,

Your pictures are wonderful, thank you so much for sharing!

I've been in Gavella, that was where the magazine photo of my friend Mel and I was taken on our first visit, it's a cute little bar/theatre.

I want to go back....

For British board members, Saturday's episode of Doctor Who, all about Vampires in Venice, was filmed in Trogir. It's a fabulous place. We sat on the waterfront sipping Citron Pressé in the shade (very, very hot weather), one of my best memories of Croatia.

I just found this thread! LOVE the pics. The scenery is very similar to Michigan, which is my favorite place in the entire world. :D I'm not moving, ever. God I want to tour Europe!

I want to go back to Croatia so bad...

My second must see place is Scotland and Culloden, but, that's an ancestral thing that I was snowed out of doing on my first trip over.

Must find money...the travel bug is driving me crazy.

For those of you wanting to learn Croatian, I've found a new, free site, it offers both audio and photo reminders on the words, and friend hook-ups:

Here's how Live Mocha works: You learn the language by total immersion, and practice it using the site's chat feature. Live Mocha connects you with people who already speak the language, so you get a more complete learning experience. Live Mocha has more than 5 million members and you can practice structured conversations with a native speaker, submit writing and audio samples for a native speaker to edit and correct. How about that? As the French say, Chic alors!, which I believe translates to "How cool is that?"

http://www.livemocha.com/

IM me here if you join, I'll tell you what I've registered under and we can chat if we're there at the same time...it looks like there are lots of Croatian teachers around too.

I've been a member there for awhile, I really enjoy it! I've been going through the lessons and have had a few things commented on, am also making flashcards and so on, AND I give feedback for other's efforts with English. It's a fun site, but I need to organize my time so I go there at least every other day; I find it's hard to do that for some reason. Great site!

JD, I just want to thank you for pointing out that site! I've registered and been playing around for a while. It's absolutely amazing! I kept trying to learn French for years but I've always found a reason not to do it, like time or money or time and money. About two months ago I set up some meetings with a private tutor, but because of my work schedule and constantly being out of town the whole thing was put off - again!

This is fun and entertaining and it might just work! Thanks again.
