Back on page 7 was an article ob Chefdance, and it mentioned that Goran and the cast of "Helen" were going to be treated to one of the dinners, an article today revealed what had been on the menu:

Gene Kato » Chef at Japonais, Chicago.

Where we found him » Chefdance.

On the menu » Flatbread "pizza" with Ahi tuna, mochi cheese and spicy anchovy sauce; five-spiced game bird sausage and creamy tofu cheesecake with "caviar" made from the yuzu fruit.

Look who made the trek up to Sundance over the weekend, nice to see Goran had friends out to support his film's premiere.

OMG...Goran's night at Chefdance included 3 fans of the Housewives of New York and they showed up in full length fur coats...he must have been one unhappy diner.

Boobs and Bonito Tartar
January 20th, 2009

As every veteran knows, the Festival attracts all sorts–including genre of people who are not part of the film business but who thirst for a taste of Hollywood glamour.

Such people seemed to be flocking to Chefdance, an annual series of dinners intended by founder Kenny Griswold to create “a dining experience that would match the film experience during the Festival.” Griswold imports a number of renowned chefs to create leisurely meals enjoyed by dozens of people seated along long, white-linen-draped tables.

When I arrived, I was introduced to hostess Bethenny Frankel, a friendly woman in a form-fitting dress that appeared to be made of leather. She told me has a book called Naturally Thin. Having learned this, I waited outside the dining room with other guests. I couldn’t help but notice that many of these guests weren’t wearing the casual and decidedly unglamourous cold-weather wear that is the uniform of most film-industry professionals while at the Festival. There were three women in floor-length fur coats–one brown, one black, one white (the coats, I mean, not the women). One wore boats with rhinestones and tassles. When I got my table assignment, I found that the three coats were seated with me. They were from Miami.

As Bethenny walked past our table, the Miami squad called out her name. They were excited; they were big fans. Turns out she’s a star of “The Real Housewives of New York City.”

Here was the menu from chef Gene Kato of the restaurant Japonais, of Chicago, New York and Las
Vegas:

First course: Miso marinated bonito tartar and diakon cucumber salad.

Second course: Tuna Flatbread

Third course: Duet of Lamb (Chef Kato’s 14 spiced lamb t-bone and five spiced game bird sausage)

Fourth course: Fromage blanc served with yuzu caviar

There was lots bared cleavage in the room. Quite a lot of artificially enhanced cleavage.

At my table, there was another sensation after a “star” from “Deal or No Deal” was spotted in the crowd.

I implored myself not to be a snob.

I ate the miso marinated bonito tartar and went out into the dark night.

The everyman -- and woman's -- Sundance

Festival regulars » Forget the jet-set. Four from Orem know the score.
By Ben Fulton

The Salt Lake Tribune

Updated: 01/23/2009 09:27:15 PM MST

Designer clothes and "gifted" high-fashion Snowtopia boots may saturate the Sundance Film Festival. So, too, does too easily earned adulation over films by entertainment industry types caught in the rush of hobnobbing and deal making.

For a down-to-earth appraisal of what's good and not-so-good at this year's festival, ask four down-to-earth Utah festivalgoers. Fitting the bill are landscaper Jordan Flygare, 27, office manager Angie Erickson, 30, real-estate appraiser Devon Guymon, 31, and his photographer wife, Dacia, 27, all hailing from Orem, first spied at a midnight screening last weekend dressed in hoodies, windbreakers and jeans, with, in the case of Dacia, accessorized with a toothpick tucked behind the ear. Flygare cautions, however, that appearances can be deceiving. "How do you know I didn't fly in here by helicopter?" he asks.

This year's festival marks their tenth time Sundancing together, although Erickson is the group's newcomer, having joined up about five or so years ago. This year, the group planned to screen a movie critic's worth of films -- 24, in all -- while facing a canyon commute, plus juggling work responsibilities. Even after the festival, they see on average one movie per week as a group throughout the year. Devon Guymon took time out from his screening schedule to answer some questions.

What have been your highlights and low-lights during the festival this year?

Dacia's come down with the flu, which is hard with her being 13 weeks pregnant. We've shut her down for a couple movies so she can recover. Normally you almost always get a cold standing outside waiting for a movie to start, but getting the flu is rough.

Response so far?

We haven't seen anything we've really disliked. We've had incredible luck catching movies with great Q&A sessions afterward. Oddly enough, we've really enjoyed two movies about depression. "Helen" [starring Ashley Judd] and the documentary "Boy Interrupted" were just great, but it was nice to follow movies like that with something light-hearted like "Spring Breakdown.""Motherhood" [starring Uma Thurman] was well done, but not something I'd need to see again.

How do you think the festival could improve?

We've never understood why they let ticket holders in [just] 10 to 15 minutes before the start. That always means the movie's going to start late. Plus, there's always ticket-holders allowed in late without having to stand in line. Most of these are industry people or stars. On the other hand, we know festival staff aren't going to tell Uma Thurman or Jodie Foster or whoever to hurry up. Still, it would be nice if they could get everyone in so the film can start on time.

What about the Q &As?

You get annoyed at audience members asking the same questions every year. Some people still ask directors, "What's the point of the movie?" The director always turns the question back, asking, "Well, what was it to you?"

Have you had any memorable celebrity run-ins?

We don't care as much about that as when we were younger. This year it's been real low-level stuff, like seeing some anchor you recognize from the Travel Channel buying coffee.

How do you and your friends manage to see all these films every year, especially commuting from Orem?

A lot of energy drinks really helps me, and I drive a lot for work so I'm used to it. In years past, we've stayed in Midway a couple times to cut down on commute time. Still, it's always great. We've noticed that even if we rent movies to see again that we've seen already at the festival, it's just not the same experience. We're really looking forward to seeing "Moon" on Sunday. You don't usually get a lot of sci-fi type movies at this festival.

I was hesitating putting this on the board, but as it's now hit the google alerts I will.

It seems that a reporter from the Croatian program "Red Carpet" showed up at the premiere of "Helen" at Sundance, despite being told not to question Goran on his personal life, she persisted, and was asked to leave. The news of this is now appearing on Javno, Jutarnji, and 24Sata.

I'm sorry, but, I think his response was justified, it wasn't the time or the place.

Here is the text from Nacional:http://www.nacional.hr/clanak/52309/sundance-goran-visnjic-potjerao-hrvatske-novinare-s-crvenog-tepiha

Sundance: Goran Višnjić potjerao hrvatske novinare s crvenog tepiha

That would be the "Red Carpet" that regualrly provides Mirela with a platform, would it? Gee, I wonder why he wouldn't want to talk to them.

And two cancelled interviews in 4 years - when he's given interviews to other Croatian journalists. They really, really need to get over themselves.

If the reporter was dunning him about the paternity situation, then I feel he was in his rights to have her leave. He is there to talk about his work in a specific film, and the media should respect that. I for one have waited a long time to see Helen, and that is what I want to hear about in these interviews and articles at the Sundance festival.
